(2006) Cast lead crystal, mirroring chemistry, sales performance. Dimensions variable.

I began making currency out of glass to quantify the value of my labor. As I worked, I kept track of hours, material expenses and the quantity of my output finally figuring my resulting wages at 2.6 cents per hour.

I deposited the coins into vending machines and pay-phones, releasing them into circulation. As they were handled, the delicate silver coating flaked off and they became translucent, revealing their materiality.

I finally sold the coins out of a storefront as art objects (the most expensive), collectables, the product of my physical labor, the cost of the materials that they were made of, and the value of the currency that they imitate.
