(2009) Dimensions variable. glass, sound, electronic and mechanical components.

This project is based on two times that Rousseau and Madame de Pompadour, the mistress of Louis XV, might have crossed paths, but probably didn’t. Their possible, but improbable relationship led to an installation that included two channels of sound on speakers that moved across the walls and an anamorphically distorted painting turned into a tabletop. When decoded with a glass anamorphoscope, the painting revealed an image of Rousseau and Madame de Pompadour close together.

The installation was a theater for one, encouraging a viewer to position herself precisely to see the decoded image and hear the stereo sound image at the point where the moving speakers cross. The loud noise of the motors muffled the recorded sound, and a chaotic flickering light disrupted the image reflected in the anamorphic cylinder.
