When many of my friends were traveling to distant parts of the world I had invitations to visit them but financial constraints prohibited me from doing so. I made a box that could be sent to everyone, one after the other, like a chain letter. It snapped a photograph every time it was opened, and advanced the film when it was closed. When it returned to me I had a roll of film with a collection of distant friends looking down and surprised.
