(2012) 40 X 24 X 50" Fragmented blown glass, foam, plywood, 2X4s, hardware, the US Postal Service.
I made a series of traditional vessel forms out of blown glass and dropped them into cold water while they were still hot. This process effectively annealed the glass by relieving it of its stress, but also fragmented the surface into thousands of tiny pieces delicately held together mechanically, like puzzle pieces. I built a wooden crate with a window that could both protect the delicate objects, and display them, since they are too fragile to ever be removed. Each time the crate is shipped, its contents deteriorate incrementally, documenting their travel and the way they are handled between exhibitions.
